Introduction to the Journal

JBER holds international recognition as a scholarly journal devoted to disseminating groundbreaking research in bioscience and environmental sciences. Committed to upholding excellence, JBER is proudly affiliated with Crossref and indexed in Google Scholar, demonstrating its dedication to widespread accessibility and scholarly recognition. Furthermore, the journal is actively pursuing inclusion in esteemed databases such as Chemical Abstracts Service, with ongoing efforts to secure recognition from COPE, DOAJ, Scopus, and Web of Science.

Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • Candidates must have at least a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Bioscience, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related discipline is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage
  • Candidates should have a strong record of research, demonstrated through publications in reputable journals and conferences within the fields of bioscience and environmental sciences. Reviewers should be capable of critically evaluating research methodologies, data analysis, and the overall scientific contribution of a manuscript.
  • Having prior experience as a peer reviewer for scholarly journals is highly desirable. Reviewers should be well-versed in the standards and best practices for peer review, including assessing the originality, significance, and clarity of research articles.
  • In-depth knowledge in one or more specialized areas of bioscience and environmental sciences is essential.
  • A strong commitment to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing is mandatory. Reviewers must be able to identify and address potential ethical issues, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or conflicts of interest.
  • Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and not disclose any information about the manuscripts they review.
  • Applicants should provide their ORCID, Scopus, ResearchGate, Google Scholar, and Web of Science IDs, if available.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Reviewer for JBER, your role will entail,

  • Conduct thorough, objective, and timely reviews of submitted manuscripts. This includes evaluating the scientific rigor, relevance, originality, and clarity of the research.
  • Provide detailed, constructive feedback to authors, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement. Aim to help authors enhance the quality of their work while maintaining a respectful and professional tone.
  • Make recommendations to the editorial team regarding the suitability of the manuscript for publication, suggesting acceptance, revision, or rejection based on the manuscript’s quality and contribution to the field.
  • Ensure that manuscripts meet the journal’s standards for scientific accuracy, methodological soundness, and contribution to the field. Reviewers should be vigilant in identifying any methodological flaws, data inconsistencies, or logical fallacies.
  • Suggest ways to enhance the manuscript’s clarity, coherence, and impact, including recommendations for additional experiments, analyses, or literature references.
  • Identify and address potential ethical issues in submissions, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or conflicts of interest. Reviewers should be familiar with the ethical guidelines set forth by the journal and the broader academic community.
  • Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could bias their evaluation of a manuscript.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and development opportunities, such as training sessions and workshops, to stay updated on best practices in peer review and scholarly publishing.
  • Be open to feedback from the editorial team and authors, using it to refine your reviewing skills and improve the quality of your evaluations.
  • Work closely with the editorial team to maintain and enhance the journal’s standards and reputation. Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to discussions on improving the review process and journal policies.
  • Contribute to the broader academic community by participating in initiatives aimed at advancing the field of bioscience and environmental research.

Term of Service

  • The initial term of service is two years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and mutual agreement.
  • Reviewers are expected to review a minimum of three manuscripts per year, ensuring the journal can maintain a steady flow of high-quality reviews and timely publication of research articles.
  • Reviewers will receive a certificate of recognition for their contributions, and their service will be acknowledged in the journal’s annual report or on the journal’s website.
